London Events in April 2022

April is a fantastic month in which to come and visit London. Not only is it spring, which usually means warmer weather, lighter evenings and sunshine, it’s also a month during which scores of events, open days and festivals are held. Whether you’re interested in history, food and drink or the arts, you’ll find something to take your fancy in London in April 2022. Book accommodation at London Backpackers through our online booking page and you’ll be perfectly placed to take advantage of everything April in London has to offer. With a bus stop over the road and a tube station just a minute’s walk away, you’re never far from the action and excitement.

As well as a fantastic location our London hostel offers clean, secure rooms, free Wi-Fi and the use of amenities such as a games room and communal TV lounge. The team at London Backpackers are also on hand to offer tips and advice on how to make the best of your stay, and this includes pointing you in the direction of events such as these:

Brixton Windmill Open Days

Brixton Windmill is a building that is more than 200 years old, and between April 9th and October 9th, you can take a guided tour of the building. Each tour takes place on the second weekend of the month in which it happens, and the good news is that the tours are provided free of charge. You can book a tour on the official website, and it should be noted that the full tour requires climbing a set of fairly narrow and steep stairs. Once inside the mill, you’ll enjoy a fascinating glimpse of mill machinery, including millstones, which date back two centuries.

Feast of St George

St George is the patron saint of England and April 23rd is St George’s day. There are celebrations across the UK, but the biggest party in London is the one which is thrown in Trafalgar Square. It’s free to attend, and amongst the fun and games on offer will be traditionally English activities such as Morris Dancing, medieval jousting and family-friendly games. Don’t worry if you work up an appetite because there will be lots of food and drink on offer and even cooking demonstrations provided by famous chefs from TV.

Sculpture in the City

If you’re a lover of the arts then make sure you explore the Sculpture in the City event. This event has taken place every year for the past decade, and it takes the form of a free sculpture trail spread across the City of London’s financial district. You can visit the website to download a map and information booklet, or pick up a hard copy from the City Information Centre in Saint Paul’s. There are 19 sculptures on show throughout the spring, accessible around the clock, created by artists such as Laure Prouvost, Mark Handforth and Guillaume Vandame.

Loved Again London Clothes Swap

If you like the idea of picking up a new wardrobe while you’re in London, but don’t have too much of a budget, then take advantage of Loved Again London’s clothes swap. This is a pop-up event taking place in Peckham on 30th April 2022, and you can book a one-hour time slot at the official website. It works like this – you take along three of your pre-loved items, which can be anything from handbags and shoes to suits or jeans, as long as they’re in good condition and clean. You’ll be given a number of tokens based on the value and quality of your items, and you can use these tokens to ‘buy’ pre-loved items from other attendees.
